2022 Chablis, Les Fourneaux, 1er Cru, Famille Grossot, BurgundyFourneaux is a small, steeply sloping Premier Cru in the Grossots home village of Fleys. One parcel is south facing, giving a generous and tropical fruit, while the other faces east, providing freshness. One third of the wine spends nine months in barrel before being blended into tank with the rest of the wine. Layered and long, this is a very seductive wine. Berry Bros. & Rudd

The finish is dry and clear but not extraordinarily complex or long

giving the wines an almost Burgundian character and seasoned oak spice while retaining mineral freshness

With a crisp acidic and rapier sharp finish there is no question as to its pedigree and long life ahead of it

Perhaps lacks some complexity and concentration compared to more esteemed vintages

and 2% Malbec

perhaps having more in common with La Romane Conti than the more rugged Richebourg

while a herbal top-note adds complexity and depth to this Bordeaux blend

full and savourous
